When you talk about rape, what comes to your mind? A girl who has several hands on her body and whose screams go unheard? Or maybe a naked dead body in the river? And what comes to your mind when you have to say something on a rapist and you are given just 10 seconds to think? Quite blank you are, aren't you?
I have written poems on rape and rape victims, many other people have too. We write about how the woman is not to be blamed, how she deserves justice and what not. And then we are showered with appreciations for what we write. But at the end of the day, it will always be the woman who is going to be blamed. It's 10p.m. now. If I go out in the street at this time wearing a short skirt and if I am raped, people will come to seek justice for me. But trust me, those same people will somewhere talk about the length of clothes they found near my body. And the only question I have is, WHY? Why, in the 21st century, is the woman still blamed? Because women have a vagina and men don't? And if you want to know the real reason why rapes still persist in the Indian society, its lack of confidence. The minds of young girls are filled with so much of shit about rape by the society, that they fear going out alone. We girls live with the fear of getting raped everyday. We aren't bold enough when we walk on the road. And why? Because the society made us believe that our No's are not loud enough to be heard by men. And therefore, we girls don't even try to utter a "No". Dear girls, make your NO bold and strong. We are not to be raped, we are to be loved. We are meant to fly in the sky, not lie on the road.
Perfect words.
You girls are made to be respected! Especially in the county where where we worship Goddess Durga, Laxmi, Saraswati and many more.
