Had been a brave girl all my life,
Except for one freaking scare,
The worst enemy of mine,
That can never be wiped out,
Was a great student in school,
Commanded the class with my rule,
Highest in languages,
Cent percent in science,
Alas for this one fearsome creep
That stalked me even in the dreams,
In my humble knowledge,
Used to called the different segments,
As plus, minus and cross
After a few slaps and ruler hits,
Understood the pattern of "carry on"
No sooner had my chest widened,
With pride of having it cracked,
Got introduced to the devil, the division,
More scarier that being at a graveyard,
More depressing than being on the roadside,
This heartless wretch made it impossible
For my mind to grasp the order,
Felt lost at the very introduction of it,
Lost hope to ever try and master it,
From there onwards,
My journey towards this infinite maze,
Of confusing numbers and problems
Took a backseat as nothing made sense.
Years later finishing off with the basics,
I am still haunted by this ghost,
Whenever I come across a shop,
And set my eyes on the price tag.
Multiply, add, subtract and divide
This is a lifelong process,
Where there's no escape,
Learnt the hard way that
It's there to stay forever,
Whether you understand it or not.
I have always been in love with maths..! ❣
But i understand you too..coz Grammar was the same for me, and it still is. 😁
