Define family

I asked the dictionary.

Descendants of a common ancestor

It answered.

But is family only that,

And nothing more?

Does it not also include

The various people we meet

Over time, over space, over destinations,

People who care for us,

Who love us back,

Who see the good in us,

And worry for our betterment,

Lending a helping hand when needed,

Going the extra mile when asked,

Supporting us through the ups and downs,

Caring for us through sickness and health,

And lending an ear when wanted?

Same blood does not a family make,

An invisible bond is involved.

Love and care is what binds

And not just the same roof.

For staying together, we can be apart,

And distance can bring us close.
