It's been almost two decades since I last visited my grandparent's house near Churu, Rajasthan. Well, unfortunately my grandpa passed away in 2014 and grandma in 2016. And both the times I couldn't go because of my board exams and I regret not seeing them one last time.
Well so the last time I went to Rajasthan was in 2000 or 01 I don't exactly remember the year. But yes it was to attend the wedding of my paternal aunt.
It was the day after the wedding when all the guests are gone, no kids are running here and there , no folk songs being sung anymore, everything was just quiet. It kinda felt empty, probably coz it was a girl's wedding and as it must be, she left her family to make a new one.
As I being a weak child, was very prone to any damn virus or disease and so I fell ill nd it was the day of the ritual of "Pakfera" (where the bride visits her maternal home for the first time after marriage) and the whole family was so excited about it. So, only my father nd my uncle was supposed to go to bring their sister as per the customs but they made it into a trip and whole family went instead, except for me and my mother coz I was sick nd we are not supposed to abandon our house in our family under any circumstances, someone must be at home. It was past 3pm nd the sky was all dark and cloudy as I woke up from my all cough syrup sleep as I heard the thunder looking for mom in the whole 12 room house with a big verandah in the centre. But couldn't find as most of the rooms were locked nd those which weren't locked were jammed and so I couldn't open them so I gave up .
Then, suddenly the door of the grandma's room opened (it was probably because of the wind ) and it started raining and as the veranda didn't had any ceiling I was enjoying the rain with my fever and dancing . Then I saw someone running into grandma's room , I ran behind him..trying to stop him ..when I entered he was sitting there on the floor as if waiting for me . He was wearing red undies and a shirt and had a big black "tika" on the left side of his forehead. He was probably of my age. He asked me to catch him "Pakro mujhe" nd he ran out there to the main door . As I was chasing him I ran and slipped . The next thing I remember was my mother was crying and was trying to stop the blood holding my chin....me in the hospital and the doctor telling me don't worry it won't hurt(4 stitches he was talking about) nd my mom being scolded by my father as at that time she was busy getting the dried clothes, and other kitchen stuffs like dal n all from the roof .
Ten years later when my mom was telling me about how brave I was when I got those 4 stitches (brave coz I didn't cry at all) I told her about the child that I saw and how he looked like my father in his childhood pics. She said it must be my father's elder brother who died at the age of 3 years due to pneumonia. Grandma told mom about him when I was in her belly.
That's scary😳
